SMS Konig Wilhelm

The Ship


Konig Wilhelm was initially built for Turkey as Fatikh but was bought by the German Navy and renamed Konig Wilhelm I and launched 25th April 1868, commissioned into the German Navy on the 20th February 1869. Konig Wilhelm served until 25th January 1897 and was then sent for harbour duties until 3rd may 1904. She then became an accommodation and exercise ship for cadets at Keil, moving to Murwik in 1909 finally stricken on 4th January 1921 and broken up at Ronnebeck.

Displacement: 10,591 tons, Speed: 14.5 knots. Crew 830. Armament: Eighteen 240mm guns plus Five 210mm Guns
