She was also fitted to act as a fast minelayer.
During WWII she was converted into a long range escort by Thornycroft at Southampton and sank two U-boats.
In April 1941 she rammed and sank U-100, with the loss of all but six of U-100's crew, and she was involved in the sinking of U392 16/3/1944.
Sold for breakup in 1945 she was wrecked off Penryn in 1946, while in tow, salvaged and eventually broken up at Falmouth by Wards in 1947.
